MIAMI FILMMAKER PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Miami Filmmaker Project (MFP) consists of intensive, hands-on, integrated programs focusing on independent filmmakers and media artists based in South Florida or filming in the region,  along with structured production assistance offered through mentoring and financial partnerships aimed at successfully bringing specific high-quality projects to completion and to the screen.  These include professional Labs with nationally recognized, visiting filmmakers as mentors-in-residence, focusing on the creative and practical development of specific feature film projects.  The MFP also offers a series of periodic public forums.

This year's series has included Conversations with well known directors David Frankel (Marley & Me, The Devil Wears Prada) and Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan, Boynton Beach Club), producers Rob Cowie (Blair Witch Project) and Sean Wolfington (Bella) in addition to those with locally-born and bred filmmakers Brian Hecker (Bart Got A Room) and Julie Davis (Finding Bliss) shared their creative energies with us too.

An Advisory Board consisting of local, national and internationally recognized, award-winning film industry leaders will help to guide the MFP in its work.  All have been chosen because of their interest in helping to expand long term industry contributions of Florida-based filmmakers.

The goal of the Miami Filmmaker Project is simple and challenging at the same time:  to help develop a thriving, regionally-based filmmaking community, one that is built on artistic integrity, talent, creativity, technical proficiency and locally-inspired storytelling. The MFP's programs are designed to bring to completion, and to a global audience, dramatic feature films, as well as shorts and documentaries, that are made by Miami-based artists or tell Miami stories, in a unique Miami voice.
